In a move that has sent shockwaves through the VALORANT community, Tyson ‘TenZ’ Ngo is officially back in competitive play, stepping in as a last-minute substitute for Cubert Academy, the academy roster of Sentinels. After his brief retirement from the pro scene in 2024, TenZ is once again gearing up to take the stage—this time in the VCT Challengers North America Stage 2 Playoffs.

A Shocking Comeback with Cubert Academy
TenZ’s return was confirmed via a social media announcement, where the star player shared:
“Going to be subbing in playoffs for Cubert Academy, will be streaming my POV on my channels! Time to make my Challengers debut.”
He’ll be replacing Logan ‘skuba’ Jenkins, who recently transferred to NRG, leaving an open spot in the Cubert Academy roster. Although temporary, TenZ’s return is already drawing massive attention from fans and fellow pros alike.
The timing couldn’t be more exciting. Cubert Academy is set to begin its playoff run on May 20th, with a best-of-three match against Winthrop University. With TenZ in the lineup, the match is expected to break viewership records for the Challengers League—especially with his personal stream set to go live alongside the official VCT North America broadcasts on Twitch and YouTube. Multiple content creators are also hosting watch parties, further amplifying the hype.
The Legend Returns
After stepping away from competition in 2024, TenZ remained active as a content creator under Sentinels, continuing to build one of the largest personal brands in VALORANT. His departure from Sentinels earlier this year appeared to signal a permanent exit from professional play—until now.
Even Sentinels CEO Rob Moore chimed in with excitement:
“I guess he’s back! When Sen needs a super sub there is only one man to call @TenZOfficial!”
What’s at Stake?
Cubert Academy will be entering the playoffs in the Upper Quarterfinals of a double-elimination bracket. However, as an academy team under a VCT-partnered organization, Cubert Academy is not eligible to earn circuit points for VCT Ascension Americas 2025 qualification. They’ve already secured a spot in Challengers Stage 3, but cannot be promoted through the Ascension system.
On the bright side, they also benefit from protection against relegation, a safety net not available to other low-ranking teams. This gives the squad a unique competitive freedom—making TenZ’s surprise appearance all the more intriguing, since their journey won’t impact the main promotion pipeline, but will certainly shape narratives and showcase talent.
All Eyes on TenZ
Whether this signals a longer return to professional play or just a brief appearance, TenZ’s return is undeniably one of the biggest stories in VALORANT this year. Known for his flashy aim, calm demeanor, and immense popularity, TenZ brings unmatched star power to Cubert Academy’s lineup.
As the playoffs begin, fans are eagerly waiting to see if the legendary player can recapture his magic on stage and deliver another highlight-worthy run—this time as the unexpected hero for a team with nothing to lose and everything to prove.
Don’t miss TenZ’s return to the server on May 20th, streamed live on Twitch, YouTube, and his own POV channels. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a curious newcomer, this is one match you won’t want to miss.
