What’s New in Heroes of Newerth Reborn Alpha?
Alpha testers have been diving into an upgraded Heroes of Newerth experience that brings back over 80 beloved heroes, now powered by a modernized game engine and enhanced servers aimed at smoother gameplay and matchmaking with role selection. The game world itself sees fresh life with new additions such as the formidable Phoenix Boss, dynamic Ravens, and updates to game balance.
Players explore iconic locations like the Forest of Caldavar and enjoy the revamped Midwars mode, all designed to recapture the spirit of the original game while introducing contemporary competitive features. To encourage early participation, limited Closed Alpha codes were shared at launch, with special perks granted to supporters of the Juvio Genesis Campaign. Top-tier backers, like those in the Kongo Slayer and Warlord tiers, enjoyed exclusive access and multiple codes to invite friends, building community excitement.
The Journey Back: From 2010 Classic to Modern Revival
Heroes of Newerth originally launched in 2010 by S2 Games and quickly carved a niche in the competitive MOBA scene. However, the original game was discontinued in 2022, leaving a passionate fanbase eager for its return. Enter Heroes of Newerth Reborn, a collaborative effort between Kongor Studios and Garena that seeks not just to relaunch, but to reinvent the game.
Kongor Studios features several former S2 Games developers and had already nurtured the community project Project KONGOR, inspired by the original Heroes of Newerth. Jesse Hayes, Co-Founder of Kongor Studios, expressed enthusiasm about the revival:
“This isn’t just a relaunch, but a reimagining of what the game can be in today’s competitive gaming world. From the visuals to the network performance, we’ve worked hard to bring the best possible experience to both veteran players and newcomers.”
What to Expect Next?
The Closed Alpha phase serves as an important feedback period, allowing the developers to fine-tune gameplay, balance heroes, and enhance technical performance. Following the Alpha, the Closed Beta will open on July 1st, granting access to even more players — especially those supporting the higher tiers of the Genesis Campaign.
For long-time fans and new players alike, Heroes of Newerth Reborn promises a blend of nostalgia and innovation, breathing new life into a MOBA classic with modern competitive gaming sensibilities.
