What Is Persuasion?
In Oblivion, when you meet people, they might not always like you right away. Some people could be neutral, others might be friendly, but some could really dislike you! This is represented by a number between 0 and 100. A score of 0 means they don’t like you at all, and a score of 100 means they trust you completely.
To get them to like you, you can use the Persuasion Minigame. It lets you talk to them and try to convince them you’re a good person or that you deserve a favor. The better you do, the more they’ll like you!
How Does the Persuasion Minigame Work?
When you talk to someone, you’ll see a special screen with four choices you can make. These are:
- Admire – Compliment them and say nice things.
- Boast – Brag about yourself and your achievements.
- Joke – Tell them something funny or try to make them laugh.
- Coerce – Try to force them into doing something (this can make them dislike you!).
Each choice affects how the person feels about you. If you choose something they like, they’ll warm up to you. If you choose something they don’t like, they’ll get upset. So, how do you know which ones to pick?
Reading Faces and Wedges
On the Persuasion screen, you’ll see four wedges—sections of a circle that show how much the person will like or dislike each choice. Some wedges are big, and some are small. The bigger the wedge, the more the person will like that choice. You can see what they feel by looking at their face while you hover over each option.
Step-by-Step Tips for Winning
- Pick the Best Option: The goal is to pick the actions that the person will love and avoid the ones they hate. But here’s the trick—you need to pick every wedge (even the ones they don’t like!). If you pick the same wedge too many times, it will hurt your chances.
- Plan Ahead: The wedges rotate clockwise. This means that if you pick the biggest wedge in the first round, it will move to a different part of the circle next time. Plan your moves carefully and try to pick the bigger wedges on things they like first. Avoid the smallest wedges on the things they hate.
- Don’t Take Too Long: If you spend too much time choosing, the person will get annoyed. They don’t want to talk forever, so try to be quick in your decision-making!
- Bribes Can Help: Once you’ve used the persuasion options and made them like you a bit, bribing can help push their disposition even higher. If you still need them to like you more, you can offer them money or items.
Color-Coded Persuasion Options
Once you’ve done the Persuasion Minigame a few times with the same person, the game will start to color-code your options. The color will show how much they like or dislike each choice. This makes it easier for you to figure out which option will get the best result without having to guess!
Leveling Up Your Speechcraft
Playing this minigame also helps you level up your Speechcraft skill. This skill improves your ability to persuade people and can make the game even easier. While Speechcraft isn’t always the most important skill to focus on, it can definitely help you level up faster, especially if you’re working on it while doing quests around town.
Why Persuasion Is Important
Being good at persuasion in Oblivion Remastered can give you many benefits. For example:
- Better Prices – You can get discounts on goods and services.
- Important Information – Persuade people to tell you secrets or give you quests.
- Access to Places – Some doors or people may only open up if they like you.
The more you persuade, the better you’ll become at it, and the more you’ll be able to enjoy the rewards!
Conclusion:
Now that you know how to use the Persuasion Minigame in Oblivion Remastered, you can start talking your way through the world of Cyrodiil! Whether you’re trying to get information, goods, or just become friends with the people around you, using persuasion is a fun and important part of the game. Practice your skills, plan ahead, and soon you’ll be the most charming hero in all of Tamriel!
