In a major move for Apex Legends esports, Electronic Arts has revealed that the 2025 ALGS (Apex Legends Global Series) Midseason Playoffs will be held at this year’s Esports World Cup, set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Running from July 10th to 14th, this will be the first time the ALGS hosts an event in the Middle East — a landmark moment in the title’s growing global presence.
The Midseason Playoffs are the second major event of the 2025 ALGS season and will bring together 40 of the best teams from around the world. They’ll battle for a massive $2 million prize pool, making it one of the largest payouts in Apex Legends esports history. Beyond the money, teams will also compete for Championship Points, essential for securing a spot at the ALGS Championship later this year.

ALGS Fully Integrated into Esports World Cup for the First Time
Unlike the 2024 edition, where Apex Legends featured separately from the ALGS, the 2025 season marks a significant integration — firmly placing the ALGS within the core lineup of the Esports World Cup, a multi-title mega event running throughout July and August in Riyadh.
This change is part of Apex Legends’ revamped competitive structure for 2025, which aims to raise the stakes and streamline progression for teams and fans alike.
How the Midseason Playoffs Will Work
The format of the 2025 ALGS Midseason Playoffs is designed for high stakes and intense action:
- 40 teams will be split into two groups of 20.
- Each group plays 10 matches, with the top 7 teams from each group advancing directly to the Match Point Finals.
- Teams ranked 8th to 17th go into the Last-Chance Semifinal, where another 10 matches are played. The top 6 from this stage also move on to the finals.
- Teams placing 18th to 20th in the group stage are eliminated from the tournament.
- The Match Point Finals will then feature the top 20 teams from both earlier stages in a final showdown to determine the ultimate winner.
This system is not only competitive but also offers multiple chances for redemption, giving skilled underdogs a shot at glory.
Apex Legends at the Esports World Cup: A Growing Legacy
Apex Legends was among the first titles confirmed for the 2025 Esports World Cup, with its inclusion announced back in December 2024. Last year, the event was dominated by Alliance, a top-tier European organisation, who claimed victory. Team Falcons, recent ALGS Open champions, came close but settled for a runner-up finish.
With the Middle East now on the Apex esports map and a massive global audience expected for the World Cup, this year’s Midseason Playoffs promise to be a historic event for both ALGS and Apex Legends esports.
As teams prepare to descend on Riyadh for the summer showdown, fans can look forward to some of the most thrilling and competitive Apex Legends gameplay the scene has ever seen.
