New Format and Massive Prize Pool
The 2025 edition introduces an exciting revamped format designed to increase competition and opportunity. A last-chance qualifier, also hosted in Riyadh, will bring up to 512 players battling for spots in the next phase: a 48-player play-in tournament. From there, the top 32 will advance to the main event, where they will compete on the virtual pitch for the coveted world champion title.
Along with the format changes, the prize pool has expanded significantly to $1.5 million (~£1.1 million), ensuring that competitors from the last-chance qualifiers all the way through to the main event will have a shot at substantial rewards.
EA Sports FC’s Growing Esports Footprint
This marks the first time the official EA Sports FC esports circuit will appear as part of the prestigious multi-title Esports World Cup. Last year’s standalone EA Sports FC 24 competition saw a $1 million (~£746,250) prize pool and achieved solid viewership numbers with a peak of over 108,000 viewers.
The circuit’s most-watched event to date remains the global qualifiers for the FC 24 Pro Open, which attracted an impressive peak audience of nearly 340,000 viewers, underscoring the growing popularity of competitive EA Sports FC gameplay worldwide.
Broader EA Presence at the Esports World Cup
EA’s involvement in the Esports World Cup is expanding beyond football. Apex Legends, EA’s popular battle royale title, will also hold its Midseason Playoffs at the event. Scheduled for July 10th to 13th, these playoffs will take place at Riyadh’s Battle Royale Stage in Boulevard City, marking Apex Legends’ first esports event in the Middle East.
This dual presence signals EA’s commitment to strengthening its esports ecosystem globally and highlights Riyadh’s rising status as a major esports hub.
Looking Ahead
With a fresh tournament format, a hefty prize pool, and a prime location, the 2025 FC Pro World Championship is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated esports football events of the year. Fans and players alike will be watching closely as the world’s best gear up to compete for glory on the virtual pitch, while Apex Legends players bring intense battle royale action to the region.
The 2025 Esports World Cup is not just a celebration of gaming talent but also a clear indicator of the Middle East’s growing importance on the global esports map. This summer, Riyadh will undoubtedly be the place to watch for cutting-edge esports action.
