What Is Rennsport R1?
Rennsport R1 is the flagship competition hosted by the Rennsport sim racing platform. Developed by Competition Company and Teyon, Rennsport launched into early access in July 2024 as a free-to-play simulator aimed at delivering ultra-realistic, high-level esports racing.
The R1 competition began in 2024 but is accelerating into 2025 with a fresh new structure and a spotlight moment at the Esports World Cup, where top teams will battle for global supremacy on the virtual track.
A New Competitive Format for 2025
This year, Rennsport R1 has introduced a three-stage competitive format that blends traditional esports structure with racing drama. Here’s how it works:
1. Seeding Stage
The season kicks off with three rounds where all 12 teams compete in knockout races to earn points and secure their place in the next phase. The top six drivers from the initial heats move to semi-finals, and from there, the fastest dozen line up for a grand final showdown to determine seeding positions.
2. Group Stage
In rounds 4 through 8, teams are divided into four groups of three. What sets this apart? A promotion and relegation system more common in traditional sports. Teams that perform well move up a group, while those who fall short drop down.
The stakes are high:
- Win Group A → Automatic qualification for the Major
- Bottom of Group D → Immediate elimination
- 2nd & 3rd place overall → Qualify for the Major
- Bottom two teams → Eliminated
3. Last Chance Qualifier
The remaining six teams enter a final battle to claim one of the three last tickets to the Major. Only the strongest will survive, making every race a make-or-break moment.
