The Mongolian Counter-Strike 2 powerhouse, The MongolZ, has officially announced Unudelger “controlez” Baasanjargal as their stand-in for IEM Chengdu 2025, running from November 3rd to 9th. The news comes on the heels of a surprising roster shakeup that saw Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold benched earlier this week — a decision that has left fans both shocked and curious about what’s next for Asia’s top CS2 squad.
A Return of Experience and Familiarity

For long-time MongolZ fans, controlez’s name will ring a bell. The 27-year-old veteran isn’t new to the organization — he previously competed under The MongolZ banner back in 2017 alongside now-coach Erdenedalai “maaRaa” Bayanbat. Later, in 2020, he briefly reunited with Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren while playing for Checkmate, building chemistry that could now prove invaluable heading into Chengdu.
The MongolZ stated that the decision to bring in controlez came after careful consideration:
“Due to insufficient time to fully assess the academy team’s players, the decision was made to field an experienced player, taking into account the input of the main team’s players,” the organization explained.
That experience will be crucial as the team faces one of Europe’s toughest squads — HEROIC — in their opening best-of-three of the tournament.

The MongolZ A Team on the Rise

If 2025 has proven anything, it’s that The MongolZ have earned their place among the global elite. Despite missing out on the ESL Pro League Season 22 playoffs, the team has built an impressive résumé this year:
- Champions of the Esports World Cup,
- Runners-up at BLAST Bounty Season 2, FISSURE Playground 2, and the BLAST.tv Austin Major,
- And, perhaps most impressively, becoming the first Mongolian team to top the Valve Regional Standings (VRS).
Those results speak to a team that’s hungry and evolving — and adding controlez could give them the extra edge they need to maintain momentum on the world stage.
What This Means for Chengdu
While the loss of Senzu undoubtedly leaves big shoes to fill, controlez brings veteran composure and historical synergy with key members of the roster. With just days to prepare before IEM Chengdu begins, chemistry and communication will be the deciding factors.
If The MongolZ can harness the same confidence and discipline that carried them to multiple podium finishes this year, their Chengdu campaign could turn into yet another chapter in what’s shaping up to be a breakout era for Mongolian Counter-Strike.
Prediction? Don’t be surprised if The MongolZ deliver another stunning performance — and perhaps even rewrite history once again.
